Some believe that the tradition of exchanging presents at christmas came about due to the gifts given to jesus by the Magi ( Three Wise Men) .

“On coming to the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.” - recounted from the Bible , Book of Matthew.

However , elaborate gifts were not common place until around the 1800’s . Now in modern day , the exchanging of presents is a huge part of christmas and some say is the big focal point of christmas.
